As for Tala being purebred or not..
Actually, Tala is technically a cross-breed.
You see, about 3 or 4 generations back, bull mastiff was bred into her gene bloodlines in one generation (before & since then, it has been shepherds)... this was done to try to help with the slant in the back that often besets purebred shepherds - which can cause real back & hip problems for them. So the mastiff was brought in to try to square the hips up, so to speak.
(Tala's bloodline and generations were never bred to be show dogs or the like. The family we bought Tala from can trace Tala's bloodline back for 13 generations... and they knew/know all of the males and females personally. As they are all pets of friends/family/acquaintances.. the dogs were/are bred to be pets, so whether or not they are truly purebred was/is never of real serious importance, ya know. )
Having said that, you can not really see the cross part of her breeding.. unless you saw her in person and noticed the square hips and back. (and then only if you knew the shepherd breed really well! Tala has fooled a few folks who claim to be very experienced shepherd breeders/judges.. ) Her markings and behavior are very spot on for a shepherd. The vet did say that having mastiff in her bloodline does play a part with helping her to be a real softie once she knows someone (as mastiffs are thought to be gentle giants!). Put it this way: once you have made friends with Tala, you have a true true friend for life.. whether you want one of not. LOL
As for us: we LOVE Tala with all of our hearts.. and we have never worried or cared about her being purebred or not. She is our babygirl, and we love her just the way she is. We did not set out to look for a purebred shepherd. Instead, the very day after we decided we were ready for our own dog, my dear friend told me of a litter of pups that needed homes... and hence, we got our little Tala Pup. It was a real example of "meant to be", no?
Thanks for asking, dear one.
I hope you are doing well.. it is so nice to hear from you again.

Well, things can always be better, but they could be a lot worse too. I hope everything is okay on your end.
'Dear one'? :embarassed:
I am hanging in there- as you said, it could always be worse, so I will be grateful for the things that are going right at least.
As for the dear one comment: I just use that term for friends and such is all.
Sorry for the embarassment.. did not mean to.
Take care.
